2021 PGA Golf Bermuda Championship
The Butterfield Bermuda Championship is an annual stop on the PGA TOUR, and first ever held in Bermuda. Returning for the third year to Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, the Championship will feature a field of 132 players, highlighted by five Bermudians. As a stand-alone event for 2021, the purse has increased to $6.5 million, with 500 FedExCup points awarded to the winner.
To date, the Championship has raised over $400,000 for more than 60 local charities. Through the Charity Volunteer program, island nonprofits assist with the recruitment of volunteers and in return the program gives back with a $200 donation for every volunteer who dedicates their time. The charitable effort is further enhanced this year with the introduction of Birdies for Charity. The program matches donations up to 10% and provides local charities an opportunity to increase visibility and solicit funds to support their mission.
The Butterfield Bermuda Championship is proud to work with over 50 small, medium-sized and large island companies. The economic impact was estimated at $22.6 million in 2019, and $13.2 for the limited event in 2020. Additionally, the Championship showcases the beauty of Bermuda with over 40 hours of live coverage on the Golf Channel, promoting the accessibility of the island from the United States East Coast.
